Honor employment commitments for EMT/Firefighter students
The Issue
At my daughter’s graduation ceremony from Charles R. Drew High School, there was a promise of hope and a future. After dedicating two solid years to the EMT/Firefighter Pathways program, she was offered employment with the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. This opportunity was no ordinary offer – it was a beacon of security and purpose, a pivotal moment that shaped her choices and expectations over the years.
For two years, my daughter focused her energy and ambition on completing this program. Assured by the promise of employment at the end, reiterated during each annual parent orientation, she chose to devote herself wholly to the curriculum rather than apply for college. This was not a snap decision. It was a commitment supported by student aspirations and parental trust in a community's word.
However, now facing this unfulfilled promise, we are left disillusioned and uncertain about the future. This situation affects not just my daughter but also other students who have walked the same path, trusting in the employment opportunities promised by the Clayton County EMT/Firefighter Pathways program.
Programs like these exist to bridge the gap between education and career, offering young adults the opportunity to serve their community with newfound skills and dedication. When promises made to students are broken, it undermines their future prospects and the trust of families who believe in such endeavors.
We call upon the Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services and the administration of the EMT/Firefighter Pathways program to fulfill their promise and provide the employment opportunities pledged to these hardworking students. By doing so, you honor their commitment and strengthen the bond between young talent and community service.
Join us in ensuring these opportunities are honored and that future students can trust in the promises made to them. Sign this petition to support our request to uphold a commitment that can redefine futures and fortify our community's trust.
