A judicial review regarding an animal cruelty case is scheduled for May 31 and it’s the first of its kind. Let’s seize this moment and speak up against animal cruelty (or there won’t be a next time).
The case*, and our message:
In February 2020, 2 men threw 29 pets out of a building in Tsuen Wan. After investigation, the police did not charge the suspects and the DOJ dropped the case, citing insufficient evidence. Details of the deliberation were also never made public. A judicial review is set to challenge this case on May 31.
Ahead of this judicial hearing, our message to the judiciary:
Animal abuse is NOT acceptable
Causing any animal suffering or harm is NOT acceptable
All suspected animal cruelty cases must be properly investigated, tried and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law
AFCD, DOJ and Legislature should push through, without further delay, the proposed amendments to CAP 169 (Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance) ^
Appropriate rights and protections for animals, and for the law to stop treating animals as objects and possessions
Why should you show support:
Justice for those killed by deliberate poisoning, being drowned in the process of illegal smuggling, being tied up and beaten, run over by trucks and cars as if it was their fault ….
Justice for those who are, for their whole lives, locked up in cages, kept in warehouses with insufficient food/water or medical support, forced to reproduce in deplorable conditions, left to fend for themselves on fishing boats during extreme weather, stripped of their natural habitat….
Animals are sentient beings. They are capable of feeling love, pain and fear. They should be adequately protected.
Sign the petition, then ask your friends, classmates, colleagues, neighbours and family members to do the same.
Let the Court hear our fight for the voiceless before May 31.

給予動物適當嘅權利同保護，以及停止將動物視為物體或財產
公義…為可憐動物…
被故意毒殺，非法走私途中淹死，綁起虐打，貨車/泥頭/私家車撞死而不顧而去
一世被困/捆綁/無自由，倉或車房住唔夠飯食或病就遺棄, 一世被困地獄不停繁殖，船上生活一到大風大雨就自生自滅, 應有自然棲息地方都被奪走。
動物有感情, 一樣感受到愛，痛苦同恐懼。
