GRAZING RESERVE: NO GRAZING LAND IN RIYOM, GWOL AND PLATEAU STATE
The Issue
Plateau state is one of the state that has been worse hit by so many crises since 1991. the state has experience a lot of blood bath as a result of ethnic crises, religious crises political crises and so on and so forth. a lot of efforts has been made by the government and other private organization to see that peace return to the one time home of peace and tourism.
Just of recent, the government of plateau state under the leadership of barrister simon lalong announce the intention of his administration to donate large portion of land for grazing to the fulani herdsmen, in the same vein, he has agreed to regulate religious activities in plateau state.
Having said that, the activities of the fulani herdsmen have turn to nuisance. a fulani man can lead herds of his cow into your land destroy your crops and if you try to ask why they will bit you and threatens to kill you, recently we have seen how their activities has taken another dimension, they embarked upon killing and destruction of lives and properties in different parts of the country from the nnnorth central to the east and to the west
Now, the FG government under the leadership of PMB want to forcefully collect land and give it to the fulani herdsmen for private business.
The question i want to ask, if a farmer want a land for agricultural purpose, can he or she go to any part of the north and demand that a land should be giving to him for that purpose?
Just as cattle rearing is a private business, so is farming business. government should not be involved in private business. if the fulani herdsmen want land for grazing, he or she should approach the land owners and purchase it for grazing and not the government.
I want you to sign this petition for the fact that, we don't have enough land for farming talk less of grazing.
If plateau state governor want to give out land for grazing to this fulani herdsmen he should go on wide consultation with the people of Plateau first before taking any decision.
