In instalment 2 of #davidshats it’s my Channel 44 hat. Along with C31 Melbourne and Geelong it’s one of only two community TV stations left in Australia and unless the Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher intervenes, both stations will stop broadcasting on June 30.
My first experience with the Adelaide community TV station was back in 2008 (when it was called “Channel 31 Adelaide”) and I auditioned for a soap opera called “The Barton”. Because it was a 2-person scene and for some reason the other couple of people there didn’t want to be on camera, they asked the pizza guy who had just delivered lunch to the office if he wanted to audition with me. So we did. I’ve never seen the footage and if anyone knows where it is, I’d love to see it. I didn’t get the part.
Since then I’ve had 3 seasons of my quiz show 31 Questions go to air as well as my fake early 90s chat show Good Afternoon Adelaide (new season coming soon).
Community TV is a great place for anyone to learn how to work in a team, learn every aspect of how to make a television program, share their passion and give their community a voice. For me, I just wanted to make funny stuff and the people I’ve met and the skills I’ve learned have made it one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. We can’t let it die. #keeplocaltv
