Don’t Let Japan Get Away With Illegal Whaling

This petition had 11,983 supporters

The Japanese whaling fleet has left port, armed with harpoons to begin illegal whaling in Antarctic waters.

They will be hunting in a place designated to keep whales safe – our Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

In 2014 the Australian Government took Japan to the International Court of Justice over their illegal whaling. And we won! The court handed down a landmark judgement, that Japan’s so-called “scientific whaling” in the Antarctic is illegal.

But our minke whales received just one summer of safety, to swim free from the whalers.

The Japanese Government decided to defy the court ruling, by resuming whaling this summer with a new 12 year plan to hunt and kill thousands of minke whales.

Prime Minister Turnbull will be visiting Japan this week. It’s critical we show our Prime Minister we want him to address illegal whaling with the Japanese Prime Minister.

Australia was courageous enough to stand up to Japan in the international courts, urged on by caring voices like yours.

Once again, the Australian Government must challenge the Japanese Government’s illegal whaling.

Time is running out - please sign the petition below and tell Prime Minister Turnbull to stand up for whales!
