The loss of our play coordinators has not been forgotten (and their absence from the wards keenly felt!). Recent developments have resulted in a lack of service in this area with the play coordinators now finished and no suitable alternative program implemented. In fact, in response to feedback the Department of Health are suggesting parents should learn to apply the techniques used by the play coordinators in their children's treatment to fill the gap that now exists! An outrageous situation causing further stress and anxiety for parents and children who are known to suffer PTSD as a result of treatment regimes! Tomorrow, the issue will be raised in WA Parliament by the Shaddow Minister for Health, Roger Cook, in a grievance debate. This will be conducted at around 10am, and we are keen to have as much support as possible outside parliament from 8.30am, and inside the public gallery for the debate, so the Minister can see the everyday people suffering from his decision. Unfortunately I am required to attend university for an assessment piece I cannot defer so cannot attend, as much as I really want to see this issue through! This petition will also be forwarded for submission tomorrow. Thank you for your support of the play coordinators and of all WA children who may need their support.
