Extend Mumbai Metro to Mira Bhayandar (MBMC)

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

We request you to extend the Mumbai Metro to Mira Road and Bhayandar railway station. It is an urgent need for residents of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), which is part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Situation in MBMC :-

  1. Rapidly growing suburb with 10 lakhs + population
  2. No modern transport in MBMC; insufficient Mumbai connectivity
  3. Only 2 links to Mumbai (WR local and western express highway WEH)
  4. Extremely overcrowded trains, BEST/MBMT buses
  5. High potential Metro ridership (due to high demand for BEST AC buses)
  6. Ample space for Metro tracks & car-shed at Bhayandar
  7. Daily traffic jams at Dahisar Toll Naka

Solutions :-

  1. Extend Andheri East - Dahisar East line to Mira Road and Bhayandar railway stations and upto Bhayandar East (for metro shed space)
  2. Extend Andheri West (DN Nagar) - Dahisar East line to Mira Road and Bhayandar.
  3. Relocate the Dahisar Toll Naka to Ghodbunder Road to decongest Western Express highway

MBMC seems to be quite ignored for transport development by MMRDA which is not sustainable. Therefore, it is crucial to extend the Mumbai Metro Metro (Line 4 or Line 7) to connect Mira Bhayandar residents rather than terminating it at Dahisar Check Naka. Mumbai Metro is the ideal mode of transport and will see huge uptake in Mira Bhayandar due to large number of professionals and students residing here. Majority of the population in this rapidly growing city either works or studies in Mumbai city or its suburbs; and therefore needs decent road/rail connectivity on urgent basis. Mira Road and Bhayandar from the western suburbs of Mumbai are traditionally lacking sufficient transport link with Mumbai. Even though Mira Bhayandar is just stone throw away from Mumbai limits and on the same island as Mumbai, the transport links are extremely overburdened and on the verge of collapse due to the following:-

1) The Western Railway (WR) link to Mira Road and Bhayandar is not sufficient as the rush hour traffic does not allow a safe and comfortable travel. It is actually risking life and limb for a person to board the local trains to Mumbai at the office time. It has caused many deaths due to people falling off from overcrowded trains between Dahisar and Bhayandar.

2) Similarly, there is a long and painful traffic jam at the only road connecting Mira-Bhayandar and Dahisar - that is the Western Express Highway (WEH). The Dahisar check naka and toll booths add to the super heavy congestion there leading to delays in reaching workplace and home everyday for motorists and public transport (BEST,TMT,MBMT,etc.) buses. Its a nightmare for patients in emergency (Source: http://bit.ly/1MbR1F8)

Therefore, We humbly request you to extend the Mumbai Metro for Dahisar (E) to Mira Road and Bhayandar in the ongoing phase at the earliest. It is a genuine and urgent need for safety, security and convenience of commuters.
