Hello, Quick note to update you on progress with the NCAT Hearing. As expected our requests for voluntary disclosure of the ‘facts’ and ‘evidence’ Sydney University and its two junk pet-food sponsors, Mars Inc and Colgate-Palmolive have been rejected. Now starts the laborious process of serving summonses in an attempt to get them to share with us all that information that they say confirms the supremacy of junk food. They brainwash hundreds of young vets and sell thousands of tons of junk, but won’t disclose fundamental information upon which they base their activities. I mentioned to Sandra Scarr, (retired professor of psychology who now lives in Hawaii, breeds Labradors and Standard Poodles and runs a raw food co-op) that we are in the process of making a video for Sydney University to reflect upon. The video features Wally a poodle cross dog that visited our clinic in September 2013. As it happened, Sandra was visiting Australia that very weekend. Sandra commented: "I will look forward to seeing little Wally two years after his oral surgery. His mouth smelled so bad, I couldn't even be in the room with him. I am sure the little dog is healthy and happy with a healthy mouth, albeit sans teeth. What a shame his owner and vets could not have prevented his rotten mouth." Wally, for the first 8 years of his life, was fed predominantly ‘My Dog’ a vile canned concoction from the Mars Corporation, sponsors of Sydney University. It’s going to be fascinating to see what the University and Mars have to say by way of explanation once we release the video. In her weekly newsletter to Co-op members Prof Scarr wrote: "Four new members joined the co-op this week. They remind us of how important the raw-meaty-bones diet is to the health of our pets. The Australian veterinarian who launched raw-meaty-bones, Dr. Tom Lonsdale, can use our help to challenge the secret corruption of veterinary schools in Australia by pet-food company dollars. It's the same problem in US veterinary schools, where pet-food companies fund buildings, conferences, student scholarships, and research projects (as long as they don't show how bad commercial pet foods are for pets). Pet food companies send paid vets to teach Small Animal Nutrition courses in vet schools. Pet-food companies help new vets to fund their practices with profitable sales of pet foods. It's a disgraceful, corrupt system that keeps vets tied to commercial pet foods. Dr. Lonsdale has launched an inquiry into Australian vet schools' ties to pet-food companies.
