The much patronaised Train No.16105/16106 Chennai Egmore-Tiruchendur Chendur Express is presently operated via age old Main line passing through Villupuram, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Trichy, Madurai and Tirunelveli.  This is the only daily express  train which connects Madurai with Tiruchendur and Delta district.   Now the DRM, Madurai has proposed to divert this train via Karaikudi, skipping Madurai.  Already a weekly train Puducherry-Kanniyakumari Express, which pass through Karaikudi in the proposed route of Chendur express rattle with poor patronage.   But the Chendur express is having wide patronage amongst all people as this is the only train which connects Southern Districts with the Delta districts daily.  Further, this train acts as an Inter City Express between Thanjavur and Chennai Egmore. SInce it pass through major passenger predominant section, occupancy ratio is very high for this train. Routing this train via Karaikudi will consume about 70 minutes more from its present running time, causing great hardship to the end to end passengers.   Since the present move of the DRM, Madurai will greatly hit the existing users of this train, The Hon'ble Railway Minister is hereby requested to ensure operation of T.No.16105/16106 Chendur Express in its present route without any diversions and to speed up it's running by delayed departure at both originating stations, using the availability of double line capacity between Madurai -Tiruchi and Villupuram -Chengalpattu sections.
