The Issue

As a collective of political parties and civil society, we demand that President Jacob Zuma be forced to answer questions presented by public and party representatives in Parliament, surrounding his decision to continue with the Russian nuclear deal after his cabinet reshuffle of 17 October 2017.

The purpose of this petition is to request both Houses of Parliament to recognise that the cabinet reshuffle effected by President Jacob Zuma on 17 October 2017 has effectively created what we deem through our understanding of South African politics to be a direct channel for business interests here and abroad to interact with the National Executive outside the provision of the constitution and for the National Executive to press ahead unilaterally with the nuclear deal in spite of judge, Lee Bozalek, of the Western Cape High Court ruling that five decisions of the government regarding the nuclear build programme, at the time of the judgment, were illegal and unconstitutional. Judge, Lee Bozalek also found against government on the legality of its procurement process and in respect of government handing over to the state utility Eskom a delegation to assume responsibility for the nuclear build programme.
