NO MORE PLEA DEALS FOR ANIMAL ABUSERS

The Issue

On December 18, 2012, Swaneka Danzler, 23, abandoned two puppies in a six-foot deep window well at the Riverhead Animal Hospital; they were so weak neither could pick their heads up to eat or drink. The puppies were placed on intravenous fluids. One week later, the little puppy named "Nicky" died from severe mange as authorities described the defenseless little guy's skin peeling off. The other puppy named Noel survived.

Danzler pleaded guilty to just one count of animal abandonment of a disabled puppy last week in a plea deal in front of Riverhead, NY Town Justice Allen Smith and was sentenced to three-years of probation.

During the plea agreement, two additional charges of animal cruelty were dropped.

We must send a message to the Justice Court in the Town of Riverhead  that the laws MUST be changed and NO MORE plea bargaining will be tolerated. By accepting plea bargains, HE IS responsible for the continuing abuse, neglect and abandonment of companion animals.

A study conducted by Northeastern University and the Massachusetts SPCA found that people who abuse animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans.

Let your voice be heard that animal cruelty needs to be taken seriously in every town, in every State.
