Protect Green Space & Historic Bridges from Sandymoor South & Wharford Farm Development

The Issue

There is a consultation to bring forward outline planning permission for the Sandymoor South & Wharford Farm area.

https://www.hiveland.co.uk/consultations/sandymoorandwharford/

This development will remove some of the last beautiful green space in the area, with tremendous biodiversity and wildlife present, when there are other brownfield areas in Halton that should be developed before any more green space is lost. This site also has a historic bridge built in 1766, Borrows Bridge, at it's heart. We previously felt that this was also at risk from this proposal as it didn't benefit from protected status - we learnt yesterday that it has now been granted Grade 2 Listed Status.

As the first and sole Green Party Councilor on Halton Borough Council, representing Daresbury, Sandymoor and Moore which is directly affected by this development, I want to ensure the objections to this proposal are widely known and understood.

Latest Government announcements are that development on green space should be deprioritised until brownfield sites are fully utilised - yet this doesn't appear to be affecting Homes England and Halton Borough Council's plans for this area.

This proposed development needs to be paused to allow all brownfield development to be brought forward in Halton. The 'development' status of the land should be reviewed and reconsidered, particularly in the context of the current climate emergency, which would allow the land, the bridge and the wildlife to be protected.

We feel that Enough is Enough for this part of Halton, and further loss of invaluable green space should be stopped.
