We wish to thank the supporters of Reza Maghsoudi for their compassion and diligent support.
The fight that you joined us in, has not had the outcome that we hoped for, but has resulted in the deportation of a young man to a country that was alien and terrifying to him. Reza was sadly and shamefully deported without even the basic essentials necessary to exist within Afghanistan. The most shameful of these being a lack of a coat in sub zero temperatures and no means to obtain one.
It would not help at this stage to list the errors and failings that Reza was forced to endure during his early days in Kabul, Afghanistan. It was both heartbreaking and profoundly frightening for all of those involved and in routine contact with him.
If it had not been for the kindness of individuals, who were strangers to Reza, and were contacted via the help of his UK based support network, it is very likely that Reza’s emotions of despair would have overwhelmed him, and the situation would have come to an abrupt and sad close. However, it did not end tragically, as we all feared, which was a miracle in itself.
Reza tried to exist within the Afghanistan culture and country which he found himself in, but found the situation too difficult to come to terms with. An example of the changes he needed to embrace was the continual security risks presented by routine bombings. We know that one such bomb was detonated within his immediate locality. Therefore it is understandable that Reza was unwilling to stay in Afghanistan and still dreamed of returning to the UK. Our last news of Reza is that he decided to move on from Kabul, an action that I am sure we can all sympathise with.
In view of all of the pain and suffering that we felt Reza went through at the hands of our immigration laws. We believe that it is necessary to peacefully challenge the UK Government’s current immigration policy. Sadly it’s current state does not reflect the kinder and more compassionate immigration laws of past governments. The current policy has become a system that is questionable in so many ways, most notably in it’s morality, transparency and fairness. With this in mind we have decided to create a new petition that challenges the UK Government to RECREATE it ‘s Immigration Policy and reflect the compassionate and fair mindedness of UK citizens, that care for the foreigner within this world; considering them to be allies, as opposed to enemies.
