Abolish Corporal Punishment in Holmes County.

The Issue

There are other alternatives to discipline, such as; Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, Restorative Justice practices, more Counselors, and Social Workers inside schools. Corporal Punishment often creates poor academic achievement, truancy, and students being pushed out of schools into the prison pipeline. We believe children need to be taught self-discipline, but you can't beat sense into them. In addition, Corporal Punishment is not allowed in the military, mental hospitals or in prisons; yet too often it is used as a first resort to correcting minor misbehaviors.
