Hollywood Puppies Boutique and Salon in San Antonio, TX: Work with shelters/rescues instead of breeders, brokers, puppy mills.

The way HP presents their puppies is called 'bait and switch' advertisements to consumers and it is a frequent common scam used on consumers—they are using photos they have copied from other websites and pages and using them in their ads, then portraying the ‘sold’ animals as ‘adopted’ ( at very inflated high retail prices, by the way) and the consumer has no idea that the ads are not the actual products and the animals in the ads are not even under their legal authority to sell not in their possession.

PUBLIC CONCERNS INCLUDE:

Frequent changes in ownership, licensing, re-licensing, permits, complaints to regulating authorities, locations of operations, plagiarized commercial photos from other websites and pages, uncooperative and hostile consumer and customer service, reluctance to answer consumer inquires and deleting Facebook posts asking basic questions regarding standards of operations; general lack of good business practices and professional communications, including but not limited as listed here, threatening comments to potential consumers or persons responding to ads. Unauthorized use of celebrity photos without legal authority or compensation to celebrities. It’s not just using public celebrities’ pictures she got from other sites, but combining them with the ads and pricing and overall context of presentation, to 'make public think' a situation is real.

Hollywood Puppies is selling live animals FOR PROFIT (at high end of retail market prices) Yet, repeatedly stipulates in ads animals are 'ADOPTED' to further mislead public or at least, misrepresent terms and conditions of actual sales.

PLEASE REMEMBER

Pet shops will assure you that their puppies are "different", and claim "their puppies don't come from puppy mills, but from wonderful local breeders". The reality is that no responsible breeder would ever place one of their puppies in a pet shop.
But my local pet shop swears..."We buy our puppies from responsible local breeders."

--Yes, their employees are told to say that. Ignore it! Virtually all pet shop puppies come from commercial breeders and puppy mills, no matter what the employees say. Even if the commercial breeder or puppy mill is local rather than 300 miles away, what difference does that make? Irresponsible breeding practices are irresponsible whether the breeder lives in Timbuktu or just around the corner. The location makes no difference.

"We buy only from USDA-licensed breeders." --A USDA license is not something that should reassure you. On the contrary, it is warning sign that a breeder is cranking out lots of puppies.

--USDA stands for the United States Department of Agriculture. Their business is farming and livestock. There are so few Inspectors that there is estimated 1 Inspector for nearly 1,000 operations.! As long as a breeder's paperwork is in order, the facilities are disinfected, cages are a (very) minimum size, and no infectious diseases are immediately obvious, the kennel passes. It is basically like crating pigs or chickens but not dogs for a life span of 10+ years unlike farm animals for consumption and short life cycles.

"Our puppies' health is guaranteed!"

--This reassuring platitude is how pet shops try to get around the expenses of genetic health testing. The pet shop offers to REPLACE unhealthy puppies – instead of seeking to prevent them in the first place by requiring their "wonderful" breeders to do genetic health tests on every parent dog used for breeding. Many genetic health problems don't show up for months or years. Either the guarantee has expired by then, or you're completely unwilling to give up a dog you've had that long. Second, the guarantees are carefully written so that whatever your puppy develops probably isn't covered or you won't have all the "proper" documentation to prove it.

My advice to you is to IGNORE everything pet shop people tell you.

They are there to make money. Period. The pet store industry has sophisticated marketing manuals that teach pet shop owners and employees exactly what to say to persuade you to part with your money. Don't be this gullible!

There will never be enough shelters, rescues, time, money or love to handle the misery of mill puppy production. A production that is driven by consumer demand, pet stores, internet sales and treating dogs as a commodity simply to be destroyed if no sold or wanted by their owners.
