There is a city meeting today August 25th at 1 PM and the city is allowing Related Group to give an update, but they are not giving the public an opportunity to comment on this agenda item.
Citizen Comments are at 5 PM, but residents had to pre-register. The city will most likely not read all of the virtually submitted written comments, but we think they should. (Agenda item 31).
Yesterday, the Related Group gave an update to the 1301 Committee, which is a committee composed of beach residents, mostly at the neighboring Summit Towers.
Related Group suggested that they may move the parks off of the dunes, but they still want to "enhance" the dunes and build "crossovers." The dunes already have crossovers, and additional crossovers can weaken the dunes and reduce their effectiveness.
They also suggested that they may eliminate Azalea Terrace, which is the road the public uses to access the beach and also to find street parking so that they can enjoy water recreation such as paddle sports. Could this also negatively affect traffic flow and access for emergency services?
The Related Group was asked if they would lower the height, and they said not by much, perhaps about 20 feet.
The deed restrictions for this land are open space, parks, recreation, and public purpose. Residents stressed that we should not be building any private condos on public land that has deed restrictions for public enjoyment. Site plans are irrelevant.
