On the 9th of February 2026 after our latest update on Holly-Anne’s petition her mother Peta Davidson received communication from Tanya Plibersek, Minister for Social Services.
Plibersek wrote “we acknowledge the courage and resilience Peta has shown in continuing to advocate following the devastating loss of her daughter… We also want to recognise the strength you bring using our voice for Holly and for other women who are no longer able to speak for themselves… We recognise the serious issue of domestic violence perpetrated by Police… emerging research is helping us to better under prevalence and impacts…” Plibersek invited Peta to a meeting with herself and the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner Micaela Cronin.
The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission is a national body which is focused around “practical and meaningful ways to promote the objectives outlined in the National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children” which was released in 2022. The Commission is calling on people to continue to share their lived experience with domestic or sexual violence, this is critical for addressing system failures and improving services available to victims.
Peta is overjoyed by this latest development, but she says the amount of work done by herself and others to get here should not be underestimated.
The letter follows ongoing campaigning to shine a light on Holly-Anne’s story and to get federal action on police investigating police by Australian Femicide Watch and The RED HEART Movement these past five months.
The letter and acknowledgment from the Minster would no be possible without the ongoing support of those who have signed the Holly’s Law petition.
But our work is far from over. It will not end until the Federal Government appoints a federal taskforce is appointed to investigate Police officers who commit domestic violence. Please share the petition with everyone you know so we can make the world safer for women facing domestic violence.
