Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington held a civil tribute in honor of Charlie’s life and his family. People spent hours painting a mural on the campus spirit rock in honor of his memory. On 09/16, a group of students camped out at the rock with transgender flag paint colors in hopes to paint over Charlie’s mural as a clear sign of their hatred for him less than 24 hours after the mural was painted. Many students decided to stand around the rock to prevent people from painting over the rock and to stand up for what we know is right. Around 11am, a female (Zofia Zambrano) showed up, took the paint, and decided she was going to try to paint over the mural. She pushed through the students and threw paint on the rock resulting in many students being covered in the paint, one even falling to the ground as a result. She then proceeded to paint over Charlie’s mural while other students shouted at us telling us we had lost souls. UNCW is dismissing this act of hatred as “freedom of expression” and has taken no action in holding this girl accountable. This petition is in hopes to show UNCW that we should not tolerate this sort of disrespect on our campus. Many have videos of her laughing and smiling at the people she got paint on as she paints over the mural. If you believe Zofia Zambrano should be held accountable for her actions by the school, please sign this petition.
