The West Orange High School Cheer Team has put students, staff, and the entire school community at risk, having a formal banquet on March 7th 2021. Following the conclusion of both their outdoor and indoor seasons, the team members planned an 80-person indoor event where masks were scarce. Attendees broke various CDC guidelines and WO guidelines. Both coaches, team members, and families can be seen taking photos without social distancing or masks. 

This event has affected the learning environment and education of the entire West Orange student body, keeping students out of hybrid learning until April 19th 2021. Not only has this affected the WOHS students’ education but also the sports seasons for all Winter and Spring sports and clubs. 

Our goal for this petition is to ensure that the cheerleaders and coaches involved are punished. As a community, it is integral to the safety of our students, teachers, staff, and families to hold the team accountable for their irresponsible and life threatening actions. 

*We propose any of the following consequences for their grave actions: 

1. The cheerleaders are not allowed to attend the 2021 graduation ceremony and outdoor prom. 
2. The Cheer team will be disbanded indefinitely. 
3. The Cheerleaders, family members, and coaches involved each be fined $1,000 for threatening the lives of the West Orange community. 

If disciplinary action is not taken by the West Orange Board of Education or the West Orange High School, the West Orange community will be exploring/taking legal action for threatening the lives of WOHS community members and harming the education of WOHS students. 

*Note: The aforementioned consequences are proposals. It is up to the West Orange Board of Education to decide on appropriate consequences for the cheerleaders, parents, and staff/admin.
