What responsibility do student organizations have when their actions promote symbols tied to hate and historical atrocities?

Universities should be places where all students feel safe and respected. When symbols like the Nazi salute appear in connection with campus groups, it can create fear and harm, particularly for Jewish students and others directly impacted by that history.

This is not about silencing political views — it’s about drawing a clear line between protected expression and behavior that undermines the safety and dignity of others in the campus community.

We call on the University of Florida administration and relevant student organization leadership to ensure accountability, uphold standards against antisemitism and hate, and take meaningful steps to prevent similar incidents.
