Ticketmaster and their parent company, Live Nation, have had an unreasonable grip on the live entertainment community for far too long. By allowing brokers (individuals, companies and bots) to snatch up tickets and sell again for ridiculous amounts on the secondary market, these companies are restricting live entertainment to only those able to afford extreme prices. Music, art and live entertainment is for everyone and these tickets belong to the fans that keep this community alive. Some of Ticketmaster‘s fees are more than 75% of face value, this is unacceptable. This issue could be resolved by restricting resale on the secondary market and not allowing tickets to be resold for profits. While Ticketmaster claims to “put fans first” it is increasingly clear that monetary gain is their first priority. We need to hold both Ticketmaster and Live Nation accountable and get tickets back into the hands of fans. We seek change and ask for these practices to be reevaluated. Tickets should not be resold for profits but resold for face value only. The use of professional brokers and bots should be completely eliminated.
