Dear BBC and legacy media, 

Cc The Guardian, The Times and the Telegraph, the Daily Express

We, ordinary citizens across Britain and the globe have come to understand that the legacy media is failing us by your double standards in analysis, language and coverage on the ongoing Gaza and Israel war crimes. 

As ordinary citizens who care for ALL lives equally, we cannot continue to allow this. You can and for all our sakes must, step up and tell the full glaring truth, without fear or favour. 

The biased coverage has effectively suppressed the full depth of visible coverage on affected Palestinian lives and the Islamophobic repercussions for British Muslims. By doing so, you have effectively set double standards in whose lives you think matter more. 

These are examples of key events where the legacy media has failed to critically cover: 

·       A range of senior politicians’ disturbing endorsement of Israel’s war crime of sieging Gaza including: 

o   Keir Starmer actively supported war crimes, effectively starving Gazans to death; 

o   Calling Labour Party councillors’ motive for resigning to be over Keir Starmer’s ‘stance on Israel’ rather than that Keir Starmer explicitly endorsed committing *war crimes*. 

o   Double standards of the EU Commission President in calling Russia’s siege of Ukraine an ‘act of terror’ but calling Israel’s siege of Gaza ‘Israel’s right to defend itself’ 

o   Videos of US President Biden refusing to answer questions about the morality of supporting the Israeli Government to hold Gaza to a siege.

·       A lack of sustained visible up front coverage that Gaza is still going through a siege.

·       Little to no coverage of individual Palestinian stories, despite this being accessible, as evidenced through coverage in alternative, independent media.

·       A dramatic increase in menacing and dehumanising language and behaviour being used by the Israeli Government and citizens.

·       Little visible or sustained coverage a six fold increase in Islamophobic trends. This issue was not given attention through a standalone article on the front of news websites and papers, unlike an increase in antisemitism rightly had, showing stark double standards.

And more.

Where there is coverage, it is almost always framed by, or added on after a Western or Israeli perspective. Palestinian people deserve to speak up for themselves without this infantilising practice. There is a stark absence of analysis on how the dehumanising language used against Palestinians is straight out of the playbook for how past genocides have manufactured consent.
