Our Petition
We, the undersigned Singaporeans and supporters of Singapore football, respectfully call upon the relevant authorities to make every reasonable effort to hold the upcoming ASEAN Cup semi-final between Singapore and Thailand at the National Stadium, Kallang, instead of Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Singapore men's national football team — our Lions — has reached an important stage of a major international competition. This is a significant sporting achievement and a rare opportunity for Singaporeans from all walks of life to come together as one nation in support of our national team.

We believe an occasion of this significance deserves a venue capable of allowing as many Singaporeans as possible to participate.

Why the National Stadium Matters
Jalan Besar Stadium has a capacity of approximately 6,000 spectators, which severely limits the number of supporters who can attend such a high-profile match.

The National Stadium at Kallang, by comparison, can accommodate approximately 50,000 spectators and would provide a setting befitting an ASEAN Cup semi-final involving Singapore.

Demand for an important Singapore–Thailand encounter is likely to extend far beyond the capacity of Jalan Besar Stadium. Thousands of Singaporeans who wish to support the Lions in person may otherwise be unable to obtain tickets.

This is about more than stadium capacity.

For generations of Singapore football supporters, Kallang has been associated with the famous “Kallang Roar” and “Kallang Wave” — symbols of the passion and unity that football can create among Singaporeans.

An ASEAN Cup semi-final provides a rare opportunity to bring that atmosphere back.

Imagine tens of thousands of Singaporeans filling the National Stadium, wearing our national colours and standing together behind the Lions.

Such an atmosphere could provide our players with a genuine home-ground advantage while inspiring a new generation of Singapore football supporters.

We Recognise the Operational Challenges
We understand that there may be logistical and operational constraints involved in preparing the National Stadium following earlier events, including the reported preparation period required before the venue can host a football match.

We fully recognise that safety, pitch conditions, infrastructure and operational requirements cannot be compromised.

However, given the national significance of this match, we respectfully ask that every reasonable option be explored before concluding that the National Stadium cannot be used.

This could include, where operationally feasible:

deploying additional manpower;
extending preparation and reinstatement working hours;
accelerating pitch and venue preparation;
improving coordination between government agencies, venue operators and contractors;
examining temporary or alternative operational arrangements; and
prioritising essential works required for the stadium to safely host the match.
We are not asking for safety or operational standards to be compromised.

We are asking for all reasonable efforts to be exhausted.

More Than Just a Football Match
This semi-final should not be viewed merely as another sporting fixture.

It is an opportunity to strengthen national pride, community spirit and support for Singapore football.

Major sporting moments have the ability to bring Singaporeans together regardless of age, background or community.

For younger Singaporeans who may never have experienced the legendary atmosphere of Singapore football at Kallang, this could be the moment that creates a lifelong connection with the Lions.

For long-time supporters, it is an opportunity to revive one of Singapore sport's most memorable traditions.

And for our national players, there can be few greater demonstrations of support than walking onto the pitch in front of tens of thousands of Singaporeans cheering them on.

What We Are Asking For
We therefore respectfully petition the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Football Association of Singapore, Sport Singapore, Singapore Sports Hub and all relevant stakeholders to:

1. Reconsider the decision to stage the Singapore–Thailand ASEAN Cup semi-final at Jalan Besar Stadium.

2. Examine every reasonable and practical option to make the National Stadium available for the match.

3. Mobilise additional resources and coordination, where feasible, to accelerate the necessary stadium preparations.

4. Prioritise giving the largest possible number of Singaporeans the opportunity to support our national team in person.

5. If the National Stadium is genuinely unable to host the match due to unavoidable operational, safety or technical constraints, provide the public with a clear explanation of those constraints and outline what alternatives are being considered to accommodate more supporters.

Bring Back the Kallang Roar
Singapore football has waited a long time for moments like this.

When our national team succeeds, Singaporeans should have every reasonable opportunity to stand behind them.

A packed National Stadium would send a powerful message to our players, to the region and to the next generation of Singapore football supporters:

Singapore stands behind the Lions.

We respectfully urge the authorities to do everything reasonably possible to:

Bring the Lions home to Kallang.
Bring the supporters together.
Bring back the Kallang Roar.
