Hold Taylorsville officer accountable for misconduct

The Issue

In Taylorsville and broader Alexander County, our communities rely on police officers who serve with integrity, respect, and fairness. Unfortunately, recent actions by one of our local police officers highlight a troubling pattern of behavior that contradicts these core values and raises serious concerns about public safety and trust in the police force. Officer Fleming!

This officer, entrusted with the badge and authority to maintain peace and protect citizens, has instead overstepped his responsibilities on multiple occasions. In one incident, he wrecked a town police cruiser while a passenger was still inside. Shockingly, instead of filing the necessary report at the scene, he was arrested by state police for failing to fulfill this basic duty. This reckless disregard not only jeopardizes the safety of individuals but undermines the very fabric of accountability.

Furthermore, in another disturbing event, he chased a man based solely on hearsay, not direct evidence, initiating the pursuit with aggression and vulgar language. His anger escalated when the man dared to question him, resulting in unjust handcuffing and continued verbal abuse. Such conduct is unbecoming of someone who is supposed to serve and protect, and it erodes public trust.

These incidents reflect poorly on the law enforcement agencies committed to upholding justice and respecting citizens' rights. Citizens of Taylorsville and Alexander County deserve police officers who exemplify the values of professionalism, respect, and justice. We believe it is imperative to address these issues head-on to restore faith in our police force.

We call for a thorough and impartial investigation into these incidents, strict disciplinary action against the officer involved, and the implementation of mandatory training programs focused on de-escalation and community engagement for all officers in Taylorsville. Only by taking decisive actions can we ensure that our community is protected by those who truly embody the principles of fairness and respect.

Sign this petition to demand responsibility and integrity from our law enforcement officers, and let’s work together to ensure a safer and more supportive environment for everyone in Taylorsville and Alexander County. Your voice matters, and together we can make a difference.
