Hold Tahoma School District Administration Accountable for Inaction on Bryan Neyers' Abuse
The Issue
As a concerned member of the Maple Valley community in Washington State, USA, I am deeply disturbed by the recent revelations surrounding Bryan Neyers, a former employee of the Tahoma School District. Neyers stands accused of sexually abusing multiple students within the district, including incidents that occurred at the district's COVID-19 day care center, during a summer field trip, and in the enrichment program. The victims were young boys between 5 and 9 years old at the time of these horrific acts.
It is with great sadness and frustration that I bring forth this petition to demand accountability from the Tahoma School District administration for their inactions regarding reports made by staff and community members concerning Bryan Neyers' behavior. Despite numerous concerns raised over an extended period of time, no action was taken to prevent these heinous acts from occurring.
In fact, it has come to light that the Tahoma School District reached a settlement amounting to $3.9 million in a sexual abuse lawsuit filed on behalf of the victims. This settlement explicitly acknowledges negligence on behalf of the school district administration. However, shockingly enough, no individual within this administration has been held accountable for their failure to protect our children.
The safety and well-being of our students should always be paramount within any educational institution. It is unacceptable that those entrusted with such responsibility turned a blind eye to repeated reports about Bryan Neyers' concerning behavior.
We call upon Superintendent Mike Hanson and other relevant authorities within the Tahoma School District administration to take immediate action towards holding accountable those responsible for this gross negligence. We demand transparency through a third-party investigation into why appropriate actions were not taken when concerns were raised about Neyers' conduct.
Our children deserve better protection from potential predators within our schools. By signing this petition, we stand together as a community demanding justice for the victims and a commitment to ensuring that no child within the Tahoma School District ever suffers such abuse again.
Let us unite and send a clear message that we will not tolerate inaction or negligence when it comes to the safety of our children. Together, we can create a safer learning environment for all students within the Tahoma School District.
