The Issue

Between wiped-out academic plans, prerequisite glitch errors blocking us from essential classes, and delayed financial aid checks, the students of Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) are facing an unprecedented crisis. These errors are not mere administrative oversights; they are barriers to our education, our future, and our livelihoods. We, the students, are not software bugs to be casually overlooked; we are individuals striving to carve out a future amidst these challenges.

When students can't enroll in required courses due to system errors, it doesn't just disrupt a semester, it can derail entire career trajectories. Prerequisite glitches have left many of us scrambling, as classes we need remain inaccessible. This undue stress is compounded by the delayed financial aid checks, funds we rely on for rent, food, and academic supplies. Such delays force students into untenable situations, compromising our health and academic performance.

Moreover, the hostility we face at service counters is demoralizing. As paying students, we deserve respect and support, not neglect and disdain. That's why we've drafted this petition for immediate action to be taken:

1️⃣ **Manual Overrides**: We demand the Admissions Department implement manual overrides for students blocked by Banner glitches, ensuring no student misses crucial classes due to system errors.

2️⃣ **Emergency Advancement Funds**: We call upon the Financial Aid Office to establish an emergency fund for students experiencing delayed grants or scholarships, so we can continue to focus on our studies without financial worry.

3️⃣ **Independent Oversight Committee**: We propose the establishment of an independent oversight committee to investigate and address the rudeness and hostility students face at service counters, ensuring a respectful and supportive environment for all.

These are not just demands; they are necessary measures to uphold SRJC’s mission of providing quality educational opportunities. We are committed to delivering this petition along with a formal student statement to the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, September 8th at 4 PM.

We need your support to make this happen. Stand with us, sign this petition, and let's demand action that ensures education remains a priority and institutional support is unwavering. Together, we can forge a path where every SRJC student can succeed.
