The Norway Opera House in Norway, Maine, stands as a beacon of opportunity, yet after fifteen years of renovation it remains unavailable largely untapped due to a self chosen/perpetuating Board of Directors. It is time for change.

Currently, the board of directors that governs the non-profit/public trust organization responsible for the Norway Opera House is appointed without public input or transparency. As a result, there is no accountability for the lack of progress.

This petition calls for the commencement of public elections  for the board of directors of the Norway Opera House, (as well as public Board of Director meetings).  By allowing residents of Oxford County, Maine, to vote, (for candidates who also reside in Oxford Hills) we can ensure that the board truly represents the community's diverse artistic and cultural interests and has real organizational building skills.

Public elections for the board (and public Board meetings) will encourage accountability and transparency, foster inclusive decision-making, and empower the local community to have a say in the artistic direction of the Norway Opera House. This change will not only support the flourishing of local arts but also provide crucial support to our creative community.
