Please sign this petition to not only hold the city of Pleasanton accountable for fair and reasonable water utility practices, but to hold the local government officials accountable, PERIOD. Together, we can make our voices heard and bring about the change our community so desperately needs. Residents are aware of long-standing challenges and concerns with how their local government handles community issues. Our elected officials should be held to certain standards, and this is where we can use our voices for the good of Pleasanton, KS!
As an owner of multiple properties in Pleasanton, KS, I’ve experienced firsthand the consequences of rash and unfair decisions made by the Pleasanton City Council—most recently concerning water utilities. Without warning, I found myself in a situation where a previously binding landlord water utilities agreement was abruptly voided, creating widespread confusion and exorbitant charges. In my case, despite my bill being under formal dispute, my water service was shut off, and no effort was made to resolve the issue. To make matters worse, my account continues to accrue late fees. This issue goes far beyond my personal experience or a simple billing dispute. It reflects a troubling pattern of unfair treatment that has affected countless residents of Pleasanton.
The current practices of our local water company and recent actions taken by the City Council are unacceptable. The decision to change policies without proper notification and fair procedures is disrupting lives and causing unnecessary hardship for many residents. It's not just about the outrageous fees; it's about the lack of transparency, communication, and consideration for residents who rely on these essential services.
The Pleasanton Utilities Department must adopt a fair and transparent policy process for any changes affecting water utilities. This includes proper notice and engagement with the community before any significant shifts in agreements or pricing. Additionally, before taking such drastic measures as shutting off water, all billing disputes must be adequately resolved.
We call upon the City Council and Pleasanton Utilities Department to pause and reconsider their regulatory strategies. Let us work together to establish a fair, consistent, and transparent process that respects the rights and dignity of every resident in Pleasanton, KS.
