The Issue

I am writing this petition because my beautiful, sweet, innocent 15 year old Bichon poodle baby was ripped out of my arms and mauled almost to death coming home from our daily leashed walk. She was BRUTALLY attacked and almost killed by 2 loose mixed pitbulls running at large. The only reason her and I are alive today is because 2 neighbors saw us and was able to save us with seconds to spare. I spotted the dogs running loose and immediately picked Bella up in an attempt to keep her safe. They charged at us with their mouths wide open, showing their teeth, growling, and I knew we were about to be attacked. They circled me down in the street and then jumped up and ripped her out of my arms by latching onto her with their teeth and then mauled her to try and kill her. The vision of them ripping her from my arms while she screamed and cried like I have never heard in her 15 years of life with me not being able to get them detached, is something that will live with me and leave me scarred for the rest of my life. I am permanently traumatized and heartbroken. Vets all say it is a complete miracle she made it and they have never seen this bad of an attack or injuries in years. She would be 100% dead if those two neighbors didn’t hear my screams. We have severe PTSD, so many horrific injuries, and this is NOT OKAY!!!!!!! These dogs have attempted to attack 2 children, attacked other dogs, even adults in our neighborhood have been bitten or attempted to bite. Some have managed to defend themselves and get away. Hundreds of neighbors are terrified of these dangerous animals. There have been several known different attacks by these two animals and nothing has been accomplished due to NC laws. Owners refuse to keep them enclosed securely so they are constantly loose and attacking. Neighbors for years have begged them to get a handle on this. They weren’t even home when we were attacked. They are left outside in all kinds of weather conditions and there are extreme concerns by neighbors of neglect. Some have heard the dogs ”eating each other” when you walk past their house, which is also exactly what they were doing after Bella and I were rescued. These vicious animals and the extreme violence are a direct result of negligence by their two owners. Every time an attack happens, owners say this is the first time, knowing well it happens over and over again. We are NOT safe. My baby will not be the last. The next will be an innocent baby or child which they continually go after. They have gotten loose way too many times and many lives of both children and dogs are at risk. I beg you to remove these animals from the two owners’ possession permanently, charge them, and prevent them from owning any other dogs again. When I showed up to their home to discuss the situation still covered in blood and highly distraught, one of the members of the family laughed in my face and told me Bella is 15 and bound to die soon anyway. They show zero sympathy. These two dogs need to be put down with no chance of rehabilitation and these owners need to be prosecuted to the highest degree.
