On February 3rd, a train carrying the highly toxic substance Vinyl Chloride (among others) were being transported via railway through Northern Ohio, and derailed. Multiple safety percautions are expected to be followed by companies/government entities who are transporting toxic chemicals, which Norfolk Southern ignored, which is why a significant area in East Palestine, Ohio is contaminated with the substance, exposing several thousand people to the chemical. Authorities are trying to get rid of the substance by utilizing a technique called a control burn, which clearly is not effective given the smoke is black (which indicates an incomplete combustion) meaning vinyl chlorid is still in the air. Most of the Northern half of Ohio and surrounding states' drinking water is being threatened due to contamination. Several farms are reporting dead fish and livestock, and if this continues, we'll soon start to see illness and disease spread rapidly among the affected areas.
