Throughout my school experience, I've always believed that teachers should be role models — they are meant to create a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment. Unfortunately, Mr. Johnston, our Math teacher, does not embody these principles. His actions have repeatedly crossed the line of professionalism, disrupting the educational experience not just for me but for all my friends and classmates.

Mr. Johnston has consistently diverted his classroom discussions to biased political topics, which has nothing to do with our Math curriculum. Teachers hold a position of influence, and it is concerning that he discusses his personal political views, including his support for ICE, with a class that has not consented to nor is interested in such discussions. While political education is vital in appropriate settings, it is crucial that such topics remain relevant and unbiased, especially when the subject at hand is mathematics.

Furthermore, he's breached the line between professional and personal life by discussing personal matters, specifically mentioning stories about his daughter in the classroom. As students, we deserve a focused environment, free from personal and unrelated narratives that detract from our learning.

As students, the quality of education we receive impacts our future, and Mr. Johnston’s conduct is a barrier to the education we need and deserve. My friends and I have often shared our concerns about his ability to provide a professional learning atmosphere. It's clear that we need teachers who respect their role and maintain the integrity of their teaching environment.

I call on the school administration to seriously investigate these concerns about Mr. Johnston. It's imperative that appropriate actions are taken to ensure all students have access to a quality education without distractions or unprofessional conduct from educators. Stand with us in demanding accountability from those in whom we place our educational trust.
