A recent federal prosecution highlighted by the U.S. Department of Justice involving a so-called “sexual wellness” company should alarm anyone following the situation at John Volken Academy.

In that case, prosecutors successfully argued that leaders of the organization targeted vulnerable individuals, isolated them, and coerced them into performing labor and services under the guise of personal growth and healing. Participants were allegedly manipulated psychologically, financially, and socially...often leaving worse off than when they entered.

This is not just a one-off situation...it reflects a broader pattern that authorities are increasingly recognizing and taking action against.

Now compare that to what has been reported about John Volken Academy:

-Allegations of forced unpaid labor up to 56 hours per week
-Reports of strict communication controls, including speaking bans
-Claims that participants were required to work in program-owned businesses to complete the program
-Documented safety concerns and injuries tied to that labor

These are not minor complaints...they mirror key elements seen in federal forced labor cases:
👉 targeting vulnerable people
👉 isolating them from outside support
👉 requiring labor under pressure or threat of losing program status

The similarities are deeply concerning.

Survivors and advocates have been raising these issues for years. Now, with federal prosecutors successfully bringing cases on nearly identical patterns of conduct elsewhere, it raises an urgent question:

Why hasn’t the same level of accountability been applied here?

This moment matters. Public awareness and pressure are often what drive investigations and change.

If you haven’t already, please continue sharing and supporting this petition. The more visibility we bring, the harder it becomes to ignore what survivors are saying.

Accountability should not depend on geography.
