Petition Statement:
We, the undersigned, stand with Quincy in calling upon Impact Outsourcing Solutions / Impact WorkForce Solutions, Material in Motion, and Google to take accountability for their actions regarding recent layoffs that were conducted with minimal notice, severely impacting the lives of hardworking employees. These abrupt layoffs violated ethical principles and potentially the legal protections provided under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
The WARN Act mandates that companies provide 60 days’ notice before conducting mass layoffs or plant closures to allow employees adequate time to transition and prepare for future opportunities. Unfortunately, in Georgia, many employees affected by these layoffs were denied this crucial period, leaving them struggling to regain stability in their personal and professional lives.
We demand the following actions:
1. Compliance with the WARN Act: A full investigation into whether the layoffs violated federal or state laws, including the WARN Act.
2. Transparency: Clear communication about the rationale behind these layoffs, including financial and operational reasons.
3. Fair Compensation: Immediate severance packages, including extended health benefits, to help affected employees recover from this sudden disruption.
4. Job Placement Assistance: Resources such as resume workshops, job fairs, and access to career counselors to help employees transition to new opportunities.
5. Commitment to Ethical Standards: A public commitment from all three companies to ensure future employment practices respect legal obligations and the well-being of their workforce.
Why This Is Important:
These companies’ failure to provide proper notice has caused immense financial and emotional distress to countless employees and their families. This petition seeks justice for those impacted and aims to set a precedent that no company is above the law when it comes to the dignity and livelihood of its workers.
