As a life-long firearm owner and a champion for our Second Amendment rights, and a parent, I find it deeply distressing to witness the ever-increasing incidents of school shootings. It's profoundly concerning that many of the perpetrators were already under scrutiny, often due to being on mind-altering medications, and, more shockingly, on federal watch lists prior to their actions.

Being watchful, mindful, and responsible as parents are the basics of parental duties. As the rightful owner of firearms and a parent to three children, I always knew what was happening in my children's lives. This is not an exception but a basic expectation every parent should uphold. If you child is unstable enough to be on drugs for it. Much less on a FBI watch list for threatening a school shooting. A parent should strictly limit axcess of said child to certain things. Firearms being #1 on that list.

Children rarely, if ever, possess firearms by themselves. In most cases, these guns come from their parents' home, intentionally or unintentionally. Alarmingly, an investigative report by a independent organization discovered that in about 80% of school shootings, the guns used were taken from the shooter's own family.

It is our urgent call for all gun-owning parents to bear responsibility for their children's actions related to firearms. 

This petition urges the implementation of rigorous laws that hold parents strictly accountable for their children's use of household firearms. 

Together we can come up with a law that holds parents accountable, while at the same time protects our 2A rights as lawful gun owning citizens.
