Hold Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass Accountable for LA Wildfires

The Issue

Each one of us, whether we live in sunny California or a snowy New England, knows that compassion and a heart are what drive actions for change. Today, we raise our voices against the devastating wildfires that have and are forcing many Californians to abandon their homes – a tragedy that could perhaps have been less catastrophic had higher authorities been more proactive with their responsibilities. Gavin Newsom, the Governor, and Karen Bass, the Congresswoman from California, unfortunately, remain at the epicenter of this blame.

In the past decade, wildfires have become increasingly worse, fueled by climate change and poor forest management. The 2020 wildfire season, the most destructive in California's history, resulted in over 4 million acres of land burned, and it put millions of Californians’ lives in danger (Source: CAL FIRE). However, the Governor and Congresswoman's interventions have fallen simply short of what is required for real change.

We are left questioning - why aren't adequate resources devoted to fire prevention and forest management? Why isn't there a stronger push for policies to mitigate climate change, which is a significant contributing factor to the severity of these wildfires?

By signing this petition, we want Governor Newsom and Congresswoman Bass to answer these questions. We demand them to take instant action to better manage Californian forests, prioritize fire prevention, and develop strategies to counter climate change effectively. For our fellow Californians, for their homes, and for our planet – let's unite our compassionate hearts to hold these officials accountable. Please sign this petition.
