Drew Afualo is a verified TikTok creator with over 7 million followers, who has been used for official TikTok ads, been on official TikTok creator panels, and is propped up by the app, sponsors, and her community as an exemplary creator on the app. Despite this, Drew violates the terms of service in many of her videos, as well as in the comments, she posts on the site. Not only does Drew violate the terms of the “Bullying and Harassment Guidelines,” but she does so with a frequency and magnitude that shows absolutely no regard for the rules everyone else is made to follow. Drew often harasses, bullies, and makes comments telling people to “Choke” often. Despite this, TikTok has done nothing to hold her accountable for this, and in fact does the opposite, promoting her even more.

Since many people are aware of this, there has recently been an ever-increasing discourse on the necessary action that needs to be taken by TikTok to hold Drew accountable, not only on TikTok, but other platforms like Twitter, since she has also made death wishes to people with her tweets, telling them to once again, “Choke.” Despite this massive discourse of creators both large and small in audience, with these critics of hers being of all races, genders, and sexual orientations, she has not only written them off, but doubled down on her methods of retribution.

Many videos criticizing Drew are taken down quickly and without question, despite the fact that they do not even need to break community guidelines, they simply need to be mass-reported by Drew’s fanbase, who often do this. Now, while Drew doesn’t seem to encourage this behavior, the mere fact that Drew allows them to do this without encouraging them not to, seems to make her complicit in their behavior, which once again goes against TikTok’s terms of service, as like most other platforms, false reports, especially on a massive scale, are against the rules.

Given all this, it is clear that Drew not only breaks TikTok’s rules quite egregiously and is not only given a free pass by the app, but she is bolstered by the app itself as one of its most cherished creators. This hypocrisy is not only morally impermissible and sets a dangerous precedent for a social media company, but it violates the trust that the public puts in Social Media Apps altogether, and it is the public’s job to hold them accountable, by holding everyone accountable to the same rules, despite their personal identity.
