Hold Congress Responsible for Insider Trading

Hold Congress Responsible for Insider Trading
The Issue
Like many of you, I have been personally affected and deeply disturbed by the issue of insider trading within Congress. The very people who are supposed to represent the public interest appear to be exploiting their positions for financial gain, a clear betrayal of their ethical and legal duties. Insider trading is not just an unfair practice—it is illegal, and yet, members of Congress have been accused of this crime.
As per a report from the Stanford Law School, between 2004 to 2008, senators beat the stock market by 12% which is more than what corporate insiders were achieving, signaling insider trading (Stigler Center, University of Chicago, 2020). It is concerning to me, and likely to many of you, that those who make our laws are seemingly acting above the law. This not only impacts the public faith in our elected officials, but also the perceived fairness of our financial institutions.
The STOCK Act, meant to prevent congress from insider trading, was passed in 2012. However, it is clear that it is either not being fully enforced or its terms need to be tightened.
This malpractice goes against the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law that our country stands for. I urge you all to join me in calling for both an investigation into these allegations and for stricter enforcement of the STOCK Act. By signing this petition, we are voicing our demand for accountability from our representatives. Let’s ensure that Congress abides by the same laws they create, instilling faith back in our system. Please sign this petition today.
