Your support for this petition is amazing—let's push the Senate to act!
The Continuing Resolution (CR), previously supported by both parties, would keep the government funded at current levels through November 21, 2025. Yet, a single issue is causing this shutdown, now in its 5th day, holding the nation in limbo.
What’s affected:
- Essential services continue: Military, air traffic control, border security, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and SNAP remain funded. Postal service is unaffected.
- Non-essential impacts: ~800,000 federal workers are furloughed (back pay promised later). National parks and Smithsonian museums face closures, IRS refunds are delayed, and TSA staffing may cause airport delays.
- Economic cost: ~$1 billion/week lost, hitting tourism, contractors, and small businesses. Total so far: $2.5–4 billion, including $2 billion in back pay.
The House passed the CR; the Senate returns October 6 for votes. If no deal by October 10, a Columbus Day recess (Oct 13–17) could extend the shutdown to three weeks unless an emergency session is called. This is the 11th shutdown since 2018, costing taxpayers and businesses dearly.
Act now: Politely call/email your Senators to pass the CR and reopen the government. Let them negotiate their issue after, with time before year-end. And share this petition! It is being noticed!
Together, we can make a difference!
