My petition received 439 signatures and prompted CT House Bill HB5340 to be unanimously approved by the Higher Education Committee in March. Unfortunately the spring legislative session ended before it could move to the next phase. This was very disappointing, however Representative Donna Veach will re-present this proposal in the upcoming winter session in January 2025. Before then, please reach out to your local State Representatives and let them know how strongly you feel about this becoming a law. Its as easy as sharing this update, the links in my petition, and my story with your local State Reps. Non-student victims of ANY act of violence by a CT university student should have the RIGHT to participate in and be included in ALL investigation and hearing processes at the university. Please don't let this proposal die. In our ever changing world that seems to grow in complacency and violence every day, let's stand up for victims rights. Together we can make a difference!
