The Issue

Dozens of babies across the U.S. have been hospitalized — and many more families are living in fear — after a contaminated infant formula was linked to a botulism outbreak.

The formula?

ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, a product marketed to parents as a cleaner, safer alternative.

But now, parents are scrambling to check batch numbers, monitor their children for symptoms, and face unthinkable worry. Some infants were already hospitalized. One baby was airlifted to a children’s hospital. And many parents, like those in Texas and Arizona, only found out after feeding recalled formula to their babies.

Botulism is life-threatening. It causes paralysis, difficulty breathing, and in some cases, death. And yet ByHeart’s recall started small, only expanding after pressure mounted. Parents are suing — and they should. But the public deserves more than lawsuits. We need systemic accountability.

We demand that the FDA, the Department of Justice, and state attorneys general:

  • Launch a full investigation into ByHeart’s manufacturing and recall process
  • Hold the company legally accountable for negligence and harm
  • Require ByHeart to cover all medical bills, testing, and emotional health costs for impacted families
  • Issue new rules mandating faster recall alerts and greater formula safety oversight nationwide.

When parents buy infant formula, they’re placing total trust in that product. That trust was shattered.

ByHeart positioned itself as a premium, health-conscious brand. But if they can’t meet basic safety standards, they should face the full consequences — for the babies hurt and for every parent still afraid.
