Stop the slaughter of cows

The Issue

On the 14th of May, 2015, a calf was shot and killed at the Anchorage Yacht Club, on Union Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The AYC manager, Natale Talmo, has threatened to continue killing the cows every other day as long as they are on the AYC property. During the dry season, now, there is little water on Union Island.  The cows must roam the island seeking food and moisture.  There are no large, lush pastures on Union.  Food is scarce.

Traditionally owners of cows, goats, sheep let them roam freely to seek sustenance.  This is a traditional practice. The Anchorage Yacht Club manager elected to shoot the beast on Thursday “to encourage the others” to stop the cows from grazing on the AYC land. Cows are not dangerous.  They generally walk away from people.  They present no threat to AYC guests or staff.  The Union Island cows have lived in harmony with tourists and island residents for centuries.

Other property owners have taken non-violent steps to keep the beasts off of their properties.  Fences, dogs, watchmen - all are alternatives to guns and violence.

Anchorage Yacht Club is owned and operated by the Palm Island Resort, part of the Elite Hotel Group that also includes the Saint James Club and Galley Bay in Antigua.

Help stop this man and the madness.
