ArcelorMittal continues to operate in Liberia and across multiple countries with a clear pattern of human‑rights abuses, labor violations, preventable deaths, environmental destruction, and corporate impunity. For years, workers, families, and entire communities have endured unsafe conditions, intimidation, displacement, and long‑term harm while governments and international institutions fail to enforce accountability. This petition demands justice, transparency, and immediate corrective action from all responsible actors.
In Liberia, the crisis is severe and ongoing. Citizens have died or suffered life‑altering injuries due to unsafe operations, poor safety standards, and negligence. Workers report intimidation, retaliation, lack of protective equipment, and denial of medical care. Communities face threats, surveillance, destruction of property, forced displacement, and environmental pollution that destroys livelihoods. These abuses mirror ArcelorMittal’s record in India, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, South Africa, Brazil, and other countries, revealing a global pattern of unsafe operations, human rights abuses, labor violations, and environmental harm.
Liberian leaders have repeatedly failed to investigate deaths, protect injured workers, enforce safety standards, or hold ArcelorMittal accountable. This failure has left victims abandoned and communities vulnerable, while the company continues to profit from weak oversight and silence. We call on the Government of Liberia, international human‑rights bodies, ESG regulators, global financiers, and ArcelorMittal’s shareholders to launch independent investigations, enforce regulations, protect whistleblowers, demand safety reforms, and ensure compensation for victims and affected families.
No corporation should operate above the law, and no human or community should be sacrificed for profit. ArcelorMittal must acknowledge its wrongdoing and disclose all deaths and injuries, end intimidation and retaliation, implement strict safety reforms, remediate environmental damage, respect labor rights, and allow independent monitoring of its operations globally.
