Hold Animal Abusers Accountable Under Michigan Law

Hold Animal Abusers Accountable Under Michigan Law
The Issue
Community members across Lapeer County and Michigan are deeply concerned by allegations involving large-scale animal neglect, abandonment, cruelty, and improper burial. Public court records indicate that criminal charges have been filed and the case is currently moving through the legal system.
We are asking the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office and the courts to pursue a thorough and transparent legal process and, if the allegations are proven, seek penalties that reflect the seriousness of the offenses.
A registered nurse shouldn’t have a license if this is what they do in their free time at home, abuse, neglect, & kill animals.
Every defendant is entitled to due process under the law. However, allegations involving the suffering of a large number of animals deserve careful scrutiny and accountability.
Animals depend on humans for care, safety, food, water, and medical attention. When that trust is broken, communities have a responsibility to speak up.
We stand for animal welfare, justice, and the consistent enforcement of Michigan’s animal cruelty laws.
