My 16-year-old child Lazaro Vela is currently in jail, facing charges for a shooting incident. The adult who is Aleging to have supplied / purchased the gun and ammunition for my minor child is, shockingly, not being held accountable at all. This lack of responsibility is unacceptable. In such cases, the adult should bear legal ramifications, not just the minor unjustly handed a deadly weapon.

Consider the fact that a study conducted by Everytown Research shows that in at least 80% of child and teen unintentional gun deaths, the firearm was acquired from the home of the victim, a relative, or a friend. These alarming statistics highlight the need for stricter laws to monitor and control the supply of firearms, especially to youth.

Our plea through this petition is to implement laws holding adults who supply minors with firearms and ammunition accountable for any subsequent actions taken with these weapons. We believe this would not only promote responsible gun ownership but also protect our children from being caught in a deadly cycle of weapon-induced violence.
