The Wheaton Park District has recently decided that they should open the CAC (Central Athletic Complex) but not allow children to play hockey as they usually do. They made this decision based on the governors guidelines on hockey being a "high risk" sport. What I propose is that our friends can get active, have fun, and be safe while playing hockey this winter. We would require this players to be wearing masks and we could have in enforced by an on-site employee, as there is one who will be checking tickets this year for skate time rental. We propose with a mask hockey will be safe because kids will be wearing hockey gloves and touching only their own stick. With them touching their own stick and using the stick to touch the puck, there will not be commonly touched items, which reduces the spread in germs. We also know that these kids will be playing outside, which scientifically is proven to reduce the chances of the virus being spread. Please consider helping the people of this community to come together safely this year, and manage to have fun and get in shape all while being safe. Hand washing and hand sanitizing will be encouraged at the CAC this year. I believe that if we come together and wear masks while playing, we can make this work and have an extremely successful year!
