Owner starved dog to death: No jail time - what a joke!

Owner starved dog to death: No jail time - what a joke!

The Issue

As reported in The Mercury on 12 December 2015, "THE owner of a dog left so emaciated it could only move its eyelashes has avoided jail over animal cruelty charges in the Hobart Magistrates Court." - How can this happen?

Ripper was starved and later died, undoubtedly in terrible pain, and having known nothing but suffering in his life. However unbelievably - his 24 year old owner Bridgewater woman Hayley June Campbell (who pleaded GUILTY) has avoided jail time!! She is on a good behaviour bond and has been ordered not to own a dog for 3 years. This is a terrible injustice! She starved an animal for weeks on end, and has received a slap on the wrist - what message is this sending the wider community? JUSTICE FOR RIPPER!

Hobart Magistrates Court - please rethink your decision. The way we treat our animals reflects directly on our humanity - how can we deem it okay to torture a defenseless animal?
