Recognise that the views of people of faith should not be stifled simply because others do not agree with them.

The Issue
This is vital if we are to retain our rights to freedom of speech. It may be that the reasoning applied by Councillor David Sylvester (UKIP) may have led him to a false conclusion regarding the floods, but he might also be right [Luke 21, 25]. Regardless, he should be allowed to express his beliefs, also to speak up for God [if he believes he should] in a society which increasingly seems unconcerned as to whether God has a position on world affairs & which increasingly seems to want people of faith silenced.
God does have a position. The Old Testament Prophets, John the Baptist, and [in His early preaching] Jesus Himself urged anyone who would listen of the need for repentance. As individuals & as a nation there is much that we need to repent of, God has been very patient with us all [2 Peter 3, 9 - 12] but time in which to repent is rapidly running out. When we see the rate that biblical prophesy has been fulfilled in recent times, the climax of history [the day of the Lord] must be fast approaching.
People who sound a warning of this & speak of our need for repentance prior to that time may offend some of us, but they are doing us a service by reminding us that we need to examine our standing before God in the time that is left to us.
