Keep Woolwich Barracks open

We strongly support keeping the Army in Woolwich, and call on the Government to reverse their decision to close and sell off Woolwich Barracks by 2028.

The Armed Forces have been a part of the local community in Woolwich for centuries, and we are proud of our long association with the Army. The Barracks has been open since 1776, and was the historic home of the Royal Artillery until 2007. It has hosted other regiments since then, and the link to the Royal Artillery has been maintained as we welcomed the King’s Troop to their new barracks next door in 2012.

The site provides the Army with a range of vital facilities within London, and is unique in this regard. The case for closing Woolwich is unconvincing, and is opposed by the local Council, MPs and many serving soldiers themselves. It should be revisited urgently by Ministers, so the decision can be reversed as soon as possible, and the future of the Barracks secured.
