In light of the ever increasing pet thefts, in particular dogs, is licensing dogs again something to be considered? It is known that livestock need passports in order to be sold or transferred so why can’t the same principle be adopted for dogs. If the thieves can’t sell an animal on without the relevant paper work it will make it pointless stealing them in the first place and save a lot of people unnecessary and unbearable heartbreak. Today alone £600 dogs have been stolen in the UK. Microchipping alone isn’t enough to combat this problem, thieves can locate the chip and they have been known to cut them out causing the dogs unimaginable suffering. Something has to be done about this. I’m seeing reports of people arming themselves with weapons just to go for a walk with their dogs and some people not walking their dogs at all.
