Here are the latest updates with my petition!
First, I want to reiterate that I created the petition on my own volition, not at the request of Martin’s Coffee & Bakery. There’s been some confusion, but I am the original starter! Next, we have hit our 2,500 signer mark! This would not be possible without the power of the community and the support of every signer. The Historic Zoning Commission is trying to say that this petition has brought nothing but negativity and divide—and that’s simply not true! Never in my time here at Martin have I seen a community more united over a cause.
I also want to share again that Martin’s Coffee & Bakery will not hinder any grants coming to Martin from the Tennessee Historic Commission (THC). Martin’s Coffee & Bakery has actually received grants in the past for their signage when the lights were up!
Finally, I want to share that we have received a lot of resistance from the Historic Zoning Commission. They have shut us out completely, and have all but outright refused to speak with us. Instead, they have told us we can speak with them through their personal city attorneys. This saddens me deeply, as I want nothing more than to be able to have an open discussion with all sides about what needs to happen to allow Martin’s Coffee & Bakery to keep their lights.
